HCM CITY — Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in HCM City is gearing up to handle a surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming National Day holiday (September 2), with an estimated 120,000 travellers expected to pass through its terminals each day.

This represents an 8 per cent increase from current levels, signalling a heavy workload for Việt Nam's busiest airport.

The peak days are expected to be August 30 for departures and September 3 for arrivals, with up to 125,000 passengers and approximately 730 flights scheduled on each of those days.

Overall, the airport will manage around 700 flights daily, a 5 per cent rise compared to the usual 660 flights per day.

In preparation for the holiday rush, the airport has implemented comprehensive plans to ensure smooth operations, focusing on passenger service, security, and safety.

It is working with various stakeholders to keep flight operations running smoothly, particularly during peak hours. Infrastructure and systems have also been fine-tuned to handle the increased demand.

To further support the influx of travellers, the airport will deploy volunteers from its youth union and the Việt Nam Aviation Academy.

These volunteers will assist passengers at security checkpoints and in public areas of the domestic terminal during peak hours, from 5am to 9am, between August 30 and September 3. Additionally, ground service teams are prepared to manage the increased number of night flights.

During the peak summer period from May 15 to August 15, 2024, the airport served over 10.47 million passengers, averaging 113,755 daily.

Of these, more than 4.122 million were international travellers, while domestic passengers accounted for over 6.342 million.

Despite this high volume, the total number of passengers was down 8.3 per cent from 2023, and the number of flights dropped by 10 per cent. — VNA/VNS
