Nhổn-Hà Nội metro line to open this week

HÀ NỘI — The elevated section of the Nhổn-Hà Nội Urban Railway Project will open for commercial operations on Friday.

The plan received agreement from the State Examination Council (SEC).

The Hà Nội Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) said that it was an important event marking a new development milestone in Hà Nội's public transport system.

It will contribute to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

The People's Committees of Bắc Từ Liêm, Nam Từ Liêm, Cầu Giấy, Ba Đình and Đống Đa districts will work with traffic police to keep environmental sanitation and ensure security, traffic order and safety.

The metro line’s success will create confidence for investors in the potential for developing transport infrastructure. It is also a testament to the tireless efforts of the municipal Party and government in building modern transport infrastructure, improving the people’s quality of life, according to the MRB.

Last Friday, the SEC conducted a site inspection and evaluated the Nhổn-Hà Nội Station section of the urban metro line project.

The inspection showed that the project’s elevated section meets the design and requirements. Completion acceptance was carried out according to regulations. The trial operation ensured technical conditions and procedures related to fire prevention, environment and safety were carried out and approved by State agencies.

Since the project was implemented, the SEC has organised 21 inspections on quality, construction documents and items, of which six had been conducted since the beginning of this year.

The SEC determined that the elevated section of the Nhổn-Hà Nội Station metro line ensured norms for commercial operation.

It noted that before the project is open for public use, the investor needs to request contractors and related parties to review all systems and auxiliary equipment serving operation.

On behalf of the SEC, Deputy Minister of Construction Bùi Xuân Dũng, SEC’s Permanent Deputy Chairman assigned the Hà Nội People's Committee to decide the time to put the project into operation.

The Nhổn-Hà Nội Station metro line is 12.5km long, of which the Nhổn-Cầu Giấy elevated section is 8.5km long and the Cầu Giấy-Hà Nội Station underground section is 4km long.

The Nhổn-Hà Nội Railway Station line runs 12.5km from Nhổn in Hà Nội's Nam Từ Liêm District via Kim Mã Street to the Hà Nội Railway Station in Đống Đa District. Construction began in 2010 at an estimated cost of over VNĐ34.8 trillion (nearly US$1.37 billion).

When officially open for use, the Nhổn-Hà Nội Railway Station section will provide a modern, safe, fast and environmentally friendly means of public transport.

The route will help people save time and travel costs, while connecting urban areas and creating favourable conditions for green and sustainable socio-economic development. — VNS
