Vietnamese firms invest US$147.3 million abroad over eight-month period

Vietnam’s overseas investment reached US$147.3 million in the opening eight months of the year, down 64.6% and equivalent to only 35.4% of the figure recorded in the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The amount was channeled into 75 new projects and added to 17 existing ones.

Local investors poured money into 14 industries abroad during the reviewed period. Of which, mining topped the list with US$58.6 million, followed by processing and manufacturing with US$29.1 million, and wholesale and retail with US$24.7 million.

Among the 25 countries and territories receiving Vietnamese investment, the Netherlands took the lead with US$54.6 million, trailed by Laos (US$37.8 million), the UK (US$19.8 million), the United States (US$18.6 million), Cambodia (US$16.6 million), and New Zealand (US$5.9 million).

Throughout the reviewed period, Vietnam had 1,757 valid investment projects abroad with a combined capital of nearly US$22.26 billion.
