The first set saw the home team enjoy a confident and strong start. However, in the crucial moments, defending champions Thailand managed to take the lead and claim a 25/18 victory.
Following the loss in the first set, the Vietnamese team were boosted by their passionate home fans to play effectively and scored in succession, leading the team to record victories in the second and third sets with scores of 29/27 and 25/23, respectively.
This marks the first time that Vietnam has won two consecutive sets against Thailand.
However, in the fourth set, although the Vietnamese side opened the scoring, the Thai team successfully held them to a draw. They displayed remarkable composure, executing precise attacks, with this effective performance leading them to a 15/13 victory.
After the intense competition, Thailand ultimately emerged triumphant with a 3-2 score, clinching first place in the tournament. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team attained a second-place finish in the first stage.
The four teams, including Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, will all continue to compete in the second stage of the tournament which is scheduled to take place in Thailand from August 9 to August 11.
