Vietnam’s trade turnover with ASEAN up nearly 12% in first half

Vietnam’s trade turnover with ASEAN surged by 11.9% in the first half of the year to each US$40 billion, reported the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Of the total value, Vietnamese exports brought in US$17.9 billion, representing an increase of 11.4% year on year.

Among ASEAN importers, Thailand took the lead, with turnover reaching US$3.87 billion, followed by Indonesia US$2.97 billion, the Philippines US$2.92 billion, and Malaysia US$2.61 billion.

Laos, Myanmar, and Brunei were the three markets witnessing the lowest export turnover in the group with US$289 million, US$149 million, and US$59 million, respectively.

Notably, Vietnamese exports to Brunei skyrocketed by 499% year on year to US$59 million. The export growth in other markets such as Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines correspondingly expanded 25%, 19% and 17%.

Meanwhile, Vietnam spent US$22.5 billion on importing goods from other ASEAN countries, representing an annual rise of 12.4%.

Thailand was the largest supplier of goods to Vietnam, earning US$5.5 billion from its exports, followed by Indonesia US$4.78 billion, Malaysia US$4.72 billion, Cambodia US$2.69 billion, Singapore US$2.48 billion, and the Philippines US$1.27 billion.
