The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has decided to cancel a friendly match between Russia and Thailand as part of the LP Bank Cup 2024 due to the impact of typhoon Yagi.

Russia are due to take on Thailand at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on September evening.

The VFF made the decision after consulting the two visiting teams and it received their agreement.

The VFF initially considered postponing the match due to the strong impact of typhoon Yagi that is forecast to blast the mainland, including Hanoi, on September 6.

It planned to move the match to September 8. However, the Russian team could not wait till the following day as they are scheduled to take their charter flight back to Russia at 3a.m. on September 8.

The Russian team ended the friendly tournament in Vietnam early after their 3-0 win over hosts Vietnam on September 5 evening.

Thailand are to encounter Vietnam on September 10 evening.

Vietnamese players did not practise outside on September 7 for safety reasons.

The tripartite friendly tournament is taking place during the FIFA Days and is expected to attract a large number of spectators as it is crucial for the Vietnam national team in the lead up to the 2024 ASEAN Championship (AFF Cup) later this year.
