Four Vietnamese dishes have been listed among the Top 89 Southeast Asian stews by prestigious international food website TasteAtlas.

Ninth position went to Vietnamese beef stew (bò kho) which can be consumed on its own or accompanied by a baguette on the side. It can also be served over noodles, whilst it is customary to serve a variety fresh herbs on the side, the website wrote.

Vietnamese chicken curry (cà ri gà) was placed in 22nd position. The dish is fairly easy to prepare and it makes use of various ingredients such as chicken pieces; potatoes; carrots; onions; garlic; coconut milk; chicken broth; herbs; and flavorings such as lemongrass, fish sauce, bay leaves, and curry powder.

Moving down the list, in 58th position was Vietnamese Offal Stew (Phá lấu). The traditional dish originating from Ho Chi Minh City is made with offal - either pork, chicken, duck, or cow - which is then marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, garlic, pepper, salt, sugar, white wine, cinnamon, star anise, and five-spice powder.

Thắng cố, a traditional Vietnamese dish originating from Sa Pa in the northwestern region, came in at 87th.

The name of this stew means big pot of water. It's made using a combination of meat, bones, offal of horses (most common), cows, pigs, or buffalos, then chopped into small pieces, the website recommended.

TasteAtlas is an encyclopedia of flavours, a world atlas showcasing traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants. The website has cataloged over 10,000 foods and drinks from across the world, with dozens of thousands yet to be researched and mapped.
