HCM CITY — Phú Nhuận District has achieved the target of having no single household under a HCM City poverty alleviation programme, according to its People’s Committee.
Speaking at a ceremony held on Tuesday to announce the achievement, its chairman, Nguyễn Đông Tùng, said the district completed the goal one year ahead of schedule.
The district’s 13 wards are home to nearly 47,300 households.
Under the city’s sustainable poverty reduction programme for 2021-25, 639 households with 2,688 members were identified as poor and 447 others with 1,741 members were identified as near-poor, he said.
Under the city’s multidimensional poverty measurement criteria, a poor household has an annual income of below VNĐ36 million ($1,400) per person, while for a near-poor household it is VNĐ36-46 million ($1,800).
As of the end of March the district had no poor households and only 292 near-poor households, he said.
Various measures have been taken to help the poor including financial support for health insurance, electric bills and school fees, scholarships and low-interest loans, he added.
The other eight districts which no longer have poor households are 5, 3, 7, 10, 11, Tân Phú, Bình Tân, and Củ Chi.
The programme had a capital outlay of VNĐ15.1 trillion ($592.5 million). —VNS
