HÀ NỘI - Blurring the lines between selling art and the art itself is the aim of a new exhibition at the Việt Nam Museum of Fine Arts.

Twenty artworks by Vietnamese contemporary artist HeQuách Bắc are on show at Goodbye Art which highlights an installation named (Goodbye my art)ⁿ taking a mathematically-inspired approach to the artist's works.

Quách Bắc continues to propose a ceaseless transactional process of buying and selling art, with all the certificates and artworks being endlessly integrated and intertwined to infinity.

"Saying goodbye to art is not the end, but saying goodbye to the past is a chance to welcome something new," said Bắc at the opening ceremony. "It is an affirmation of the artist's endless creativity aiming for innovation and discovery."

Applying traditional painting techniques on used acrylic material, Quách Bắc reproduced and enlarged the ordinary certificates of authenticity for artworks.

He turned them into surprising and rather humorous works of art which at first glance give viewers the impression that they are 'redundant' pieces.

At some point in the art's development, it is the values of the certificates that the artist holds in highest regard, rather than the art work itself.

Goodbye Art is Quách Bắc's fourth solo exhibition, following previous shows Waterscape, Falling into the Horizon and Sky of Fame.

Born in 1988 in Hà Nội, Quách Bắc has participated in 20 different group exhibitions in both Hà Nội and HCM City.

The Goodbye Art exhibition is organised by Chau & Co Gallery and curated by Hoàng Minh Châu. It runs daily until July 21 from 9am to 5pm at 66 Nguyễn Thái Học Street.

An art tour with the artist and curator will be held at 10am on July 20. - VNS
