Vietnam’s Hanoi Police clinched a 2-1 dramatic victory over Thailand’s Buriram United in their opening game of the ASEAN Club Championship 2024 on August 22.

Hanoi Police, with their home field advantage, made their attacking attempts right from the first minutes of the match.

Three minutes into the match, midfielder Phan Van Duc performed a technical tackle outside the penalty box before launching a dangerous long-range shot, beating Thai goalkeeper Siwarak.

After the opening goal, the hosts continued to maintain the pace of the match, but they could not succeed in the decisive shots.

Meanwhile, Buriram United produced a lackluster performance, except for Supachai’s shot which was accurately blocked by goalkeeper Nguyen Filip.

Minutes into the second half, Buriran United earned an equalizer after Jefferson David accurately headed home from Supachai’s cross.

Hanoi Police immediately responded afterward with dangerous attacks, and their efforts were rewarded in the 67th minute with Alan’s header from close range, extending their lead.

The remaining minutes of the match saw the two teams continuously take the tit-for-tat actions, but no goals were scored.

The 2-1 win over Buriram Utd helped Hanoi Police gain more confidence ahead of their Group B matches against Kuala Lumpur City, Kaya FC and Lion City Sailors.

Earlier, another Vietnamese football club, Thanh Hoa, produced a spectacular comeback when they crushed Shan United 3-1 in their Group A match.
