The dog has historically been used by the H'Mong people as a hunting and guard animal, particularly in Bac Ha and Si Ma Cai districts of Lao Cai province.
Addressing the press conference held on November 29, a representative from the Ministry of Public Security noted that the breed of dog symbolises loyalty and strength, as well as representing attachment and discipline.
So far, more than 2,000 athletes, coaches, and officials from 21 countries and territories globally have registered to compete in the tournament, which will be held by the Ministry of Public Security and the Vietnam Public Security Forces Sports Association in collaboration with the World Police Taekwondo Federation.
The competition will feature two main categories, including the Asian Police Taekwondo Championship and the Asian Police Taekwondo Festival. There will be 16 weight categories in sparring events, along with five for poomsae, and five performing events.
Held for the first time in Vietnam, the tournament will create an opportunity to affirm the bravery and talent of public security forces, and to boost the friendship and cooperation between police forces of countries in Asia and elsewhere across the world.
The event is part of activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the Vietnam People's Public Security forces (August 19, 1945 - 2025) and the 20th anniversary of Day of All People Safeguarding National Security (August 19, 1945 - 2025).
