The Ministry of Industry and Trade issued a directive on September 6 requesting that local Departments of Industry and Trade ensure a sufficient supply of essential goods for areas to be affected by the incoming super typhoon Yagi.

The designated departments of localities such as Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Lang Son, and Bac Kan that will be impacted by Yagi reported that major production and distribution enterprises have increased their reserves of essential goods and necessities. The items include rice, instant noodles, dried food, bottled water, fuel, and others in high demand to meet the needs of people in disaster-affected areas.

These items are in stock and are ready to be delivered to disaster-stricken areas upon request.

The estimated volume of essential goods in stock can be used for five to 10 days, depending on the situation, capacity, and characteristics of each locality.

According to major distribution businesses, such as Saigon Coop, BRG mart, Wincommerce, Central Retail, Mega Market, Lotte mart, and Aeon mart, there was a sharp increase in the purchase of fresh food items such as meat, frozen food, and instant noodles on September 6 morning following news of typhoon Yagi bringing heavy rain and strong winds to northern Vietnam in the coming days.

Following the direction released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, they have proactively increased their stockpiles of goods by two to three times. All of them shared that the supply of goods at supermarkets will be able to meet demand.

In addition, supermarket systems in areas affected by the typhoon have plans to transfer goods from neighbouring localities to points of sale in areas affected by the typhoon.

At the same time, they also have plans to increase online sales, support fast delivery, and establish emergency response teams.

Currently, market management forces in these localities are stepping up market inspection and control in a bid to promptly prevent acts of speculation, hoarding, and profiteering when demand for goods increases, causing market instability.
