The Vietnamese movie surpassed many other outstanding works, including “Son of Adam” of India, “Hooves” of Sri Lanka, and “Euphoria” of Taiwan (China) to claim highest prize in the category.
“The Masterpiece” of the Republic of Korea came first in the Best Short Film category. Elsewhere “Jhumri Talayian” and "Batshit Crazy", both of India, topped the Best Short Comedy and Best Short Horror Film categories.
The Kanazawa Film Festival has been held annually in Kanazawa, Japan, since 2007. It aims to promote the spread and exchange of film culture.
The September 4-8 festival screened 41 films selected from 335 submissions this year, showcasing a unique multinational collection of films and directors from all continents. Most of the entries were shown in Japan for the first time.
The debut film “Crimson Snout” (Quỷ cẩu) by young director Luu Thanh Luan draw inspiration from the supernatural folk story of the "Chó đội nón mê" (The hat-wearing dog), a legend that tells of dogs possessed by spirits rising on their hind legs and instigating demons to disturb people in their homes until their bodies become malicious spirits.
Although the film's story is simple, it focuses on the spiritual and psychological aspects of a family involved in the long-standing dog meat trade, depicting how dogs are killed, creating haunting and chilling scenes.
The horror movie earned over VND100 billion after its screenings in Vietnam, making it a surprise for Vietnamese cinema in late 2023.
