Vietnamese cuisine named among Top 100 Southeast Asian soups

Phở (noodle soup), Bún bò Huế (Hue breakfast noodle soup), and Canh chua cá (sweet and sour soup) have been featured among 22 Vietnamese dishes which are included in the list of the Top 100 Southeast Asian soups by TasteAtlas.

According to TasteAtlas, a website dedicated to discovering fresh ingredients, traditional dishes, and authentic restaurants around world, phở (noodle soup), phở bò (beef pho), phở bò tái chín (Northern Vietnamese Beef Pho), phở gà (chicken pho), phở chay (vegan pho) and phở hải sản (seafood pho) claimed sixth, eighth, 23rd, 24th, 26th, and 27th spots, respectively.

Phở is a Vietnamese noodle soup, the country’s national dish, street food, comfort food, and a way of life. It is also one of the most beloved local dishes in the western hemisphere due to its complex, unique flavours, and elegant simplicity.

In 17th position is bún bò Huế (Hue Breakfast Noodle Soup), a staple Vietnamese soup which is traditionally consumed for breakfast, consisting of pork and beef bones broth, bun noodles, lemongrass, shrimp paste, lime juice, and a variety of herbs.

TasteAtlas also featured bún riêu (Tomato and Crab Noodle Soup), bún măng vịt (Duck Noodle Soup with Bamboo Shoots), bún mọc (Pork Ball Vermicelli Soup), and bún mắm (Fermented Fish Noodle Soup) on the list, ranking 29th, 32nd, 50th, and 51st, respectively.

Several Vietnamese dishes have been named among the list for the first time, including hủ tiếu nam vang (Nam Vang Noodle Soup), miến gà (Chicken and Glass Noodle Soup), canh chua (Sweet and Sour Tamarind Soup), bánh canh (Thick Noodle Soup), bánh đa cua (Red Noodle Soup with Crab), canh bóng (Pork Rind Soup), and canh nấm tràm (Mushroom and Seafood Soup), placing at 39th, 42nd, 44th, 45th, 54th, 87th, and 94th positions, respectively.

TasteAtlas is an encyclopedia of flavours, a world atlas showcasing traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants. The website has cataloged over 10,000 foods and drinks from across the world, with dozens of thousands still yet to be researched and mapped.
