Addressing the event, Huynh Tan Dat, director of the Plant Protection Department, emphasised that Vietnamese fruits already have a presence in more than 60 countries worldwide. Among the fruits, passion fruit has been exported to 20 countries around the globe in various forms, such as fresh, frozen, and juice.
Dat revealed that Vietnam has recently improved its product quality; abided by procedures of production chains; and ensured the origin traceability of passion fruit with a focus on two varieties - yellow and purple passion fruit.
For his part, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski said that both countries have seen robust export growth in farm produce over the years, with several high-quality fruits making inroads into each other’s markets.
With regard to the Vietnamese passion fruit, Goledzinowski described the fruit as delicious, adding that his family often eats it every day.
Passion fruit is the fifth Vietnamese fruit to enter the Australian market, alongside mango, longan, lychee, and dragon fruit.
Moving forward, the two countries will continue to complete the final stages of the deal so that Vietnamese grapefruit and Australian blueberries will be available in the respective partner market.
