The Vietnamese women's volleyball team progressed to the VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup semi-finals after beating China’s Henan squad 3-0 in the northern province of Ninh Binh on August 29.

The local side dominated the game in the opening minutes and quickly took the lead, winning the first set with a score of 26-24.

The Chinese players then equalized the score in the second set. Bich Tuyen’s excellent performance helped to raise the score to 27-25 in favour of Vietnam.

Players from Henan then took an early lead 17-13 in the third set. The Vietnamese players then reversed the situation and scored five consecutive points, with the score of 20-19 in favour of Vietnam remaining until the end of the game.

Moving forward, Vietnam will play against Expressway of the Republic of Korea in the semi-final round. The tournament opened on August 24 in the northern province of Ninh Binh and is due to run through to August 30.

A total of eight teams are divided into two groups and are playing a round-robin format to select the top four sides who will ultimately progress to the semi-final stage.

The tournament was launched back in 2004 and has been held annually since then. Last year saw the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team 1 ultimately win the competition after defeating the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team 2 in the final match held in Lao Cai province.
