LÀO CAI — A crane accident on Friday at a phosphorus slag-crushing plant in Tằng Loỏng Industrial Park, Bảo Thắng District, Lào Cai Province, has left three workers dead and three others injured.
Initial investigations suggest the tragedy occurred at 11:30am when a cable hoist carrying the six workers suddenly snapped, sending the container they were in plummeting to the ground.
The container was then struck by a falling pulley, compounding the devastating impact.
The two workers who lost their lives have been identified as L.V.C., age unknown, and P.V.N, 34. The former died at the scene while the latter sucummed to injuries while being rushed to the hospital. The identity of the third worker who lost his life during hospital treatment has not been announced.
The three injured are receiving medical attention.
The police have concluded that the construction company's use of a tower crane to transport workers violated labour safety regulations. They pressed charges against it on August 2. — VNS
