Three more Vietnamese restaurants received one Michelin star at an announcement ceremony held on June 27 in Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total number of local Michelin-starred dining establishments to seven.

The three new restaurants are Akuna Restaurant of Le Méridien Saigon Hotel, The Royal Pavilion at the Reverie Saigon Hotel, and La Maison 1888 inside Da Nang's InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.

Last year witnessed four restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City also recognised with one Michelin star, including Anan Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City, Gia, Hibana by Koki, and Tam Vi in Hanoi.

In the Michelin system, one star signifies a very good restaurant, two stars means excellent cooking that is worth a detour, and three stars mean exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey.

According to the Michelin Guide website, there are over 3,000 Michelin-starred restaurants located acrossnearly 40 different countries.

Apart from the restaurants receiving Michelin’s Star Awards, the event also revealed 99 restaurants awarded Michelin Selected, along with 58 restaurants named Bib Gourmand (restaurants with quality cooking at moderate prices).

In the Special Awards, Young Chef went to Nhat Duy of Ho Chi Minh City’s Thao Dien Ward’s Little Bear, ahip new eatery located over the river from District 1.

Meanwhile, Toan Nguyen of La Maison 1888 received the Sommelier Award, whilst Anh Nguyen of Si Dining pocketed the Service Award.

Most notably, the first ever Green Star, awarded by the Michelin Guide Vietnam, which is a commendation for sustainable gastronomy, went to Nén Danang.
