HÀ NỘI — A series of performance art workshops will take place in Hà Nội to explore the very nature of 'performance art'.

The workshops, from a project initiated by Singaporean Jason Lim and Vietnamese Trần Lương, will look at research into the genre.

Performance art is a multi-interface art form that is flexible and open in dialogue and negotiation. It always broadens the interactive space, facilitates discovery, sharing, exchange and mutual understanding among communities, various historical, cultural and social backgrounds.

The project in Việt Nam will be held from July 3 to 15, including a series of performance art workshops led by project members, in-depth discussions and talks, field trips, and spontaneous interaction.

Highlights of the project will be workshops conducted by Lim and Lương on July 7.

Lim is a ceramist and performance artist. He studied at Central Saint Martins, London and acquired his master of fine arts from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (LASALLE College of the Arts).

Lim has performed in over 20 countries including Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Poland, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

Lương is an independent curator, visual artist and major figure in creating space for critical contemporary art in Việt Nam. He formed a collective with fellow painting graduates that became known as the Gang of Five and was responsible for leading the development of contemporary art in Việt Nam.

Lương was rewarded with the Prince Claus Laureate in 2014 for his extraordinary commitment to development of art and culture. His works have been on display in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Việt Nam, Japan, Australia, the USA, Germany and France.

The project is organised by the APD – Center for Art Patronage and Development - with the main sponsor United Overseas Bank (Vietnam) and co-sponsored by UpGen Vietnam and the Ascott Limited/CapitaLand Investment. — VNS
