HCM CITY — Văn Lang University’s summer school 2024 advanced course started from September 19 to 21, offering opportunities for individuals to develop deeper knowledge of semiconductor technology.

With the theme "Semiconductor: From Materials to Applications", the three-day course is carried out by experts in the field of semiconductors.

It provides learners advanced knowledge, focusing on improving their skills and vision in the field of semiconductor technology.

Attendees have the opportunity to acquire knowledge from in-depth lectures, participate in practical workshops, interact directly with experts, expand industry networks, get updated on the latest technology trends, and enhance career opportunities in the rapidly evolving field of semiconductor technology.

Speaking at the course’s opening ceremony held on September 19, VLU President and Assoc. Prof. Trần Thị Mỹ Diệu said over the past few decades, the global semiconductor industry has witnessed remarkable growth, and continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the technological landscape of the world.

The emergence of AI in recent years further heightened the global demand for this special product.

Việt Nam has consistently shown its ambition in deeper integration into the global semiconductor value chain.

Last August, the Government established a national steering committee for boosting the semiconductor industry, with a plan of training 50,000 engineers in this field.

“We understand that a skilled workforce is a key determinant in this competitive landscape. Our summer school programme here today marks the start of our effort to support this strategic goal,” she said.

The course offers an invaluable opportunity for Việt Nam’s semiconductor community to exchange with global experts to gain updated insights into the advancements and outlook of the industry.

“Through this interaction, we expect to build a strong global network of experts in the field for Việt Nam, paving the way for future collaborations, exchange programmes, and other partnership opportunities with leading institutions and companies worldwide,” she added.

The course provides a number of specialised lectures such as “MOS Capacitor and MOS Transistor” by Prof. Sorin Cristoloveanu, director of research CNRS in France.

“Basic Device Physics: Bands, electrons and holes, carrier transport, Poisson, continuity and generation recombination equation” was presented by Prof. Jean Pierre Colinge, formerly with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), IMEC, Leti, and UC-Davis in the US.

Prof. Gong Xiao of the National University of Singapore (NUS) shared about “Short channel effects, transistor scaling and CMOS roadmap” and “Packaging, heterogeneous integration (SIP 2.5D/3D) and testing.”

Natalie Nguyễn, senior manager at Onsemi MNC in the US, shared about “semiconductor technology transfer”; and Hoàng Nguyễn, former director at GlobalFoundries in the US, presented “Semiconductor product manufacturing.”

Nguyễn Ngọc Mai Khanh of Marvell Technology in Việt Nam shared about “Integrated Circuit Applications: RF and Analog.”

“Wearable Design and Electronics Manufacturing System: Opportunities for Việt Nam,” was presented by An Trần, chief engineer - executive programme lead at Mixer in the US.

Nguyễn Phúc Vinh, senior director of applications engineering - GTM at Synopsys Vietnam, shared about “Semiconductor Sub-Micron: Technology Trends and Advanced Packaging for Multi-Die Systems.”

Within the framework of the event, VLU signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NUS to promote academic and research activities and strengthen cooperation in many fields.

VLU affirms its pioneering role in equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to adapt and lead in an ever-changing technological landscape.

Its School of Technology (VLTECH) will focus on training high-quality human resources that meet global demand and rapid technological advancements. — VNS
