A lotus festival, the second its kind, opened on May 16 in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap with the aim of introducing hundreds of One Commune One Product (OCOP) products and delicacies made from the lotus plant.
The festival opens with a music and dance gala held on May 16, with the event featuring the participation of more than 100 performers.
The organisers will hold a total of 30 activities during the course of the festival, including a street carnival involving a parade of ancient cars and an appearance of thousands of women in Ao Dai (the nation’s traditional long dress) decorated with images of lotus flowers.
The festival will also set up a space showcasing lotus flowerpots from different varieties, as well as a map of the nation made from lotus flowerpots.
An exhibition displaying a range of paintings, photos, and ceramic artefacts focusing on lotus flowers will also get underway as part of the event.
A fair featuring 250 stalls introducing OCOP products made of lotus by local manufacturers takes place.
Around 50 chefs from Dong Thap and other provinces will come together to compete in a contest highlighting delicacies made from various parts of the lotus plant.
This marks the second time that a lotus festival has been held in Dong Thap, aiming to promote the economic value of the lotus flower and attract more tourists to the Mekong Delta region.
