CAO BẰNG — Nguyễn Văn Tiến, Deputy Director of the Department of Việt Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, today handed over the emergency aid provided by US-based Samaritan's Purse to help Việt Nam recover from the impacts of typhoon Yagi and subsequent flooding, to the hard-hit mountainous province of Cao Bằng.
Nguyễn Hồng Vân, Vice Chairwoman of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee of Cao Bằng Province, received the aid.
To date, 57 people have been killed and two remain missing in Cao Bằng, making it the locality with the second highest death toll, mostly from landslides and floods.
Previously, on Monday afternoon, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development received the emergency international aid from Samaritan’s Purse at Nội Bài International Airport in Hà Nội.
The aid consists of new, unused items worth approximately US$116,000, including 3,000 flashlights, 3,000 cooking sets, 3,000 household water filters, 3,000 clean water containers, and 6,000 Song Long 22-litre plastic buckets.
They are to be delivered to the three provinces worst affected by the typhoon, Lào Cai, Cao Bằng, and Yên Bái, within two days. — VNS
