The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) have revealed the successful outcomes of the K-Med Expo Vietnam held recently in Ho Chi Minh City.

This marked the second year which the event has run following co-organisation between the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) and the Korea Medical Devices Industry Association.

The expo facilitated remarkable business interactions, with 84 Korean medical device firms conducting a total of 501 consultations with 306 Vietnamese clients, generating an estimated value of US$91 million in the process.

The Vietnamese partners showed a keen interest in several product categories, particularly those related to dental care, diagnostic imaging, and skincare. Given the nation’s young population, with nearly half under the age of 35, there was also a keen focus on medical devices for cosmetic procedures and gynecology.

Attendees were also treated to presentations and academic seminars, including sessions on digital health, an emerging frontier for medical device companies based in the RoK.

Yoo Jeong-yeol, president of the KOTRA, said the agency will continue to intensify promotional activities through co-operation with various ministries and organizations with a view towards making medical devices a new engine of growth for Korean exports.

The KOTRA is currently in the process of setting up K-Bio Desks in seven locations, including Ho Chi Minh City, as part of efforts to support Korean biomedical companies seeking to enter the Vietnamese market, he added.

The RoK is currently the sixth largest supplier of medical equipment to the nation.
