QUẢNG BÌNH — The People's Committee of Quảng Bình Province announced on Tuesday a state of emergency due to landslides at Cây Sường Hill, in Residential Area No. 8, Quy Đạt Town, Minh Hóa District.
The hill in the north central coastal region, has complex geology, reaching heights of approximately 65 to 70 metres above the natural ground level of nearby residences.
Between September 18 and 21, influenced by Storm Soulik, several landslides were reported in the area, with cracks forming and causing subsidence along a total length of around 200 metres.
In some spots, earth and rock showed signs of sliding just 5 to 10 metres from residential properties, with some areas encroaching upon the walls of houses.
Currently, 40 households with hundreds of residents living at the foot of the hill, are in constant fear of landslides during heavy rains.
In response to the situation, the province has ordered the district administration and relevant agencies to urgently relocate all 40 households to safer areas during rain and flooding, while ensuring the provision of food, essential supplies and necessities for them.
The district had to maintain vigilant monitoring of weather patterns, rainfall and potential landslides, remaining prepared with personnel and equipment to respond to any incidents.
Warning signs indicating danger must be installed and staff must be deployed to guide and ensure the safety of individuals and vehicles passing through the dangerous areas.
Local authorities were told to enhance communication to inform residents about the risks of landslides and damage to infrastructure, urging them to take proactive measures.
The Department of Construction and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment were assigned to collaborate with the People's Committee of the district to seek appropriate technical solutions to combat landslides in the town.— VNS
