To meet the increasing travel demand during the coming lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, the airline is scheduled to wet lease two COMAC ARJ21 aircraft from Chengdu Airlines on January 25, 2025.
In a wet lease the supplier provides a plane and a crew, often for a short period of time, in contrast to a dry lease when only an aircraft is provided.
As this is a new type of aircraft, the airline has requested that relevant authorities support several leasing contract procedures, such as ACMI, MOU, and FAOC, whilst asking airports and ground service units to co-ordinate to deploy the operation.
Previously, VietJet planned to operate flights to Con Dao island in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau using Embraer E190 aircraft.
However, it changed the plan for several reasons, including the delayed delivery.
The reopening of direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao will bring a number of benefits to passengers, especially tourists from the North who are keen to explore the pristine beauty of the pearl island.
Bamboo Airways earlier operated the route, but later suspended all flights to the hotspot in April.
