The eighth Cai Rang floating market culture tourism festival was held from November 30 to December 2 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, with the occasion attracting plenty of domestic and foreign visitors.
The annual festival is expected to preserve the unique culture of the famous Cai Rang floating market, with the site being one of the most popular tourist destinations throughout the entire Mekong Delta region. The event was first held back in 2016, with the aim of promoting the riverine market, which is a unique sight for visitors. The function is part of the Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta tourism-trade week which has the ultimate goal of boosting tourism and strengthening socio-economic ties between Ho Chi Minh City and the delta region. The event features tourism, sports, and music programmes, along with the promotions of tourism products and services. As many as 105 stalls are set up along the river as a means of introducing local specialties to guests, including traditional southern cakes, fruit, and tourism products. The highlight of the festival is a showcase of the dozens of trading boats which sell various delicacies and agricultural products at the market, as well as a typical parade involving all boats going along the Cai Rang River. A wide range of activities are held at the function, including a fashion show of áo bà ba, a traditional outfit worn by people in the southern region, a traditional “đờn ca tài tử” (southern folk music) singing contest, and folk games. The festival helps to promote the floating market as a unique and exciting destination for both domestic and international visitors to enjoy. It also offers opportunities in which local businesses have a platform in which to introduce their products. VOV
