This commitment was made by Thamban Kanna Poduva, director of Lulu Group, during a reception held for Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang on the sidelines of the ongoing Vietnam Goods Week at Lulu Supermarket at Sylicon Oasis in Dubai.
Lulu is one of the largest retailers in the UAE and has recently sought goods from Vietnam in order to sell in its retail system in the Middle Eastern state.
Currently, there are more than 300 Vietnamese products available in this retail system, and the most popular items are agricultural and food products such as cashew nuts, dragon fruit, lemon, guava, jackfruit, rice, processed foods, and frozen seafood, said the group’s representative.
Vietnam boasts several high-quality agricultural and food products which suit the tastes of the UAE people, he said, adding that with advantages coming from signed bilateral free trade agreement (FTA), Lulu Group plans to increase the import of products from the Vietnamese market in the time ahead, especially fresh fruits, processed foods, and seafood.
Mirash Basheer, director of Lulu Vietnam, affirmed that the company is in the process of training suppliers to obtain Halal certifications in order to make further inroads into Dubai market in particular and the Muslim market in general.
The “Vietnamese Goods Week” event held at Lulu Supermarket in Dubai is taking place immediately after the recent official visit to the UAE made by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The event is anticipated to contribute to accelerating Vietnamese import and export activities to the UAE, especially when the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Vietnam and the UAE is ratified by both sides and comes into effect soon.
Earlier in late October, both sides signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in Dubai.
