Artists from the Gyeonggi Dance Company of the Republic of Korea have staged a special art programme “Dance of Time: Tradition and Modernity” at the Duyet Thi Duong space within the Imperial City of Hue, central Vietnam, as part of the Hue Winter Festival 2024.
The special art programme that celebrates Vietnam's Cultural Heritage Day, features performances by the Gyeonggi Dance Company. It comprises seven performances that showcase traditional dances and intangible cultural heritage from the RoK, such as the Tae Pyung Mu (Dance of the Great Wind), Crane Dance, Ganggu Yeonwol Mu, and Palbag-sugeon-chum. Korean artists present various dances, including the Tae Pyung Mu and traditional folk music dance Salmunori, rooted in Korean cultural traditions. Furthermore, contemporary dance pieces reflect themes of love, life, and modern society. The audience also enjoys folk songs from the Gyeonggi region, including Noraetgarak, Cheongchunga, Changbu Taryeong, and Seodo Minyo, which express a range of emotions from joy and sadness to gentle satire on the ups and downs of society. The Gyeonggi Dance Company, a cultural and artistic organization, encompasses three main dance genres: traditional, ballet, and modern dance. Established on December 16, 1961, it is one of the ten associations under the Korean Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations, aimed at promoting friendship among dancers in Gyeonggi-do and contributing to the development and promotion of Korean dance. A contemporary dance piece is performed by Korean artists, captivating the audience with their remarkable performances. In addition to the dances, the special art programme gives spectators the chance to watch the artists show off traditional Korean costumes. The programme showcases a captivating fusion of traditional and modern dance elements that highlight the rich cultural exchange between the two countries. VOV
