Four female Vietnamese karate fighters are set to fly to Spain for the 2024 Karate World Cup National Team Championships, which is scheduled to take place in Pamplona town from November 22 to 24.

According to Duong Hoang Long, head coach of Vietnamese karate team, Nguyen Thi Ngoan, Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly, Dinh Thi Huong, and Hoang Thi My Tam, will compete in the kumite (combat) category.

Vietnamese athletes had qualified for the tournament after they successfully advanced to three gold-medal matches at the Asian Karate Federation Senior Championships, which ended in Hangzhou, China, on September 22.

The four female fighters won gold in the women's kumite team category after a 2-0 win over China. This was their fourth Asian championship finals in a row, and the first time that Vietnamese athletes have advanced to the world team championships.

The 2024 Karate World Cup National Team Championships, known previously as WKF Team World Championships, will gather together the best karate teams from around the globe.

According to the organisers, the World Cup will not only showcase the best in the sport, but also foster a sense of unity and values among a diverse range of cultures.

There will be 20 teams competing in the kumite discipline. Vietnamese fighters will play in Group A alongside the likes of Croatia, the United States, Greece, and Egypt.

Vietnam is the only Southeast Asian representative competing in the tournament.
