Incheon city of the Republic of Korea (RoK) expects to work alongside partners in Ho Chi Minh City to promote MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) tourism and medical tourism in Vietnam through a series of events.

The plan was released at the 2024 Incheon Tourism-MICE Roadshow held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 14.

Addressing the event, Baig Hyeon, CEO of the Incheon Tourism Organization, shared that the Korean locality boasts many unique historical and cultural relics, beautiful natural landscapes, and modern transportation infrastructure and medical services, all of which is very convenient for the overall development of MICE and medical tourism.

Vietnam is a potential market for MICE tourism, with large Korean corporations such as Samsung, LG, and others choosing to run part of their businesses in the country. Every year, these firms organise activities to reward excellent employees through trips abroad to encourage them, he noted.

Nguyen Cam Tu, director of the Ho Chi Minh City municipal Tourism Department’s tourism promotion centre, said that the event helps to open up effective cooperation opportunities and foster closer ties between MICE tourism businesses in the city and Incheon.

In 2023, the RoK was among Ho Chi Minh City’s largest tourism markets with over 524,000 arrivals to the city.

The southern metropolis has welcomed more than 524,000 RoK visitors over the past three quarters of the year, accounting for approximately 14% of total Korean tourists to Vietnam.

The RoK is also a favourite destination for residents of Ho Chi Minh City, with sightseeing spots such as Eulwangri Beach, Fairy Tale Village, and Incheon Grand Park.

Last year, approximately 420,000 Vietnamese tourists visited the RoK, making Vietnam the largest source of tourists from Southeast Asia and the fifth largest overall.
