Ho Chi Minh City is set to stage the world teqball championships for the first time from December 3 to 8, providing a great chance for the city to promote its landscape, culture, and food to international friends.

The International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) has selected the Vietnamese city among nominations from 156 countries worldwide to become the venue for this year’s competition.

The tournament is expected to draw the participation of hundreds of athletes from 90 countries and territories worldwide. Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, Lam Son park, Bach Dang wharf park, and Le Loi street will be the competition venues.

On this occasion, Ho Chi Minh City will organise a wide range of activities to introduce Vietnamese culture to international friends. An exhibition showcasing the various cultural heritages of the country will also get underway at Ho Chi Minh City Museum.

Visitors will have the chance to explore cultural genres, food, and arts of different regions across the country at special corners to be set up on Le Loi street.

Furthermore, a trade promotion conference will take place at Rex Hotel on December 7, gathering together local and foreign businesses in various fields such as culture, sports, trade, and tourism.

Hungarian businessman György Gattyán, co-founder of the FITEQ, and presidents of teqball clubs across 150 countries and territories worldwide, will attend the event.

Teqball is a ball sport that is played on a curved table, combining elements of sepak takraw and table tennis. Teqball was first played in Hungary in 2014 and has since drawn the attention of many people, especially football stars.

The FITEQ was founded in March 2017, with its membership now consisting of 124 national federations, over 4,000 clubs worldwide, and more than 800 referees.
