The country has sent a total of six players to participate in the International Chess Federation (FIDE) World Youth Chess Championships 2024 which is set to begin on October 30 in Brazil.

The national team will compete in the U14, U16, and U18 age groups.

Among the six players, Dinh Nho Kiet represents the most promising face of Vietnamese chess. Back in June he brought home a gold medal from the Asian Youth Chess Championships held in Kazakhstan.

Last year, Kiet bagged a silver medal in the U14 boys event at the FIDE World Youth Rapid and Blitz Championships 2023 taking place in Georgia.

Vietnamese master Kiet took part in the U14 boys event in the FIDE World Youth Chess Championships 2024. With an Elo of 2,333, he was placed in the top seed group.

The FIDE World Youth Chess Championships is a FIDE-organised worldwide chess competition for boys and girls under the age of eight, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18. A total of 12 world champions are crowned every year.

Several outstanding Vietnamese players have previously won the highest prizes in the tournament in history, including Dao Thien Hai in the U16 boys in 1993, Nguyen Thi Dung in the U12 girls in 1994, Hoang Thanh Trang in the U20 girls in 1998, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son in the U10 boys in 2000, and Le Quang Liem in the U14 boys in 2005.
