Seven Vietnamese athletes have arrived in China to compete in the WSA 2024 International Slingshot Open 2024, scheduled to take place in Shanghai on October 19 - 20.

All of the local athletes, who are ranked in the top places in domestic tournaments, will attend in three categories, namely the Precision Competition for the men’s group and women’s groups, the Classic Competition, and the Team Competition.

This year, the International Slingshot Open has attracted the participation of 600 competitors from 17 countries around the world.

Slingshot is a small hand-held projectile launcher that is known by many names globally, such as a catapult in the UK and a peashooter in the US.

It is composed of a Y-shaped frame with elastic rubber strips attached to the upper two ends. A projectile is loaded into the slingshot, and by pulling back on the rubber bands, the projectile is then loaded to fire at a target.

Like other target sports such as shooting, darts, and archery, participants stand a distance away from a target and score points for accuracy by hitting the target with a small metal ball.

The standard shooting distance from the target is 10 metres. There are different target types, as well as different events such as precision, precision distance, and speed events.

The Vietnam Slingshot Championship will also be held for the first time in the northern province of Thai Nguyen in June 2025.

This will be the largest official tournament of its kind ever held in the nation, gathering together the top athletes from across the country to participate.
