This shipment of fresh coconuts originated from Ben Tre province, weighing a total of 21.6 tonnes, valued at CNY110,000 (approximately US$15,000).
This marked the first time Vietnamese fresh coconuts have been imported into China via road transport.
Also on October 15, a shipment of 22.4 tonnes of fresh Vietnamese coconuts, valued at CNY98,000, was successfully transported to the Youyi Guan border gate in Pingxiang City of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
This shipment of the juicy fruit also originating from Ben Tre cleared customs and entered the Chinese market after passing the required inspections.
Since the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Vietnam has gained approval from China to export four new types of fruits, namely durian, bananas, watermelons, and coconuts, through the Youyi Guan border gate.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China recently signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for Vietnamese fresh coconuts exported to China, opening up opportunities for Vietnamese coconut farmers and processors to enter the lucrative market.
