The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the AFC women’s club competition mid-season 2024/25 rankings, with Vietnam being placed in fourth position.

This comes after Ho Chi Minh City FC put in an outstanding performance at the AFC Women’s Champions League 2024/25 Group Stage, with two wins against India and Chinese Taipei.

Their positive result therefore helped the country to gain a total of 76,984 points, including club points of 52,000 and national team points of 24,484 to claim fourth position in the Asian rankings.

Vietnam was followed by the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and China. Others making the Top 10 list include representatives from Chinese Taipei, the Philippines, and Thailand.

Japan took the top spot with 100 points, while Australia and the Republic of Korea found themselves in second and third places, respectively.

Japan’s position can largely be attributed to the stellar performance of the Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies. The 2023 AFC Women’s Club Championship winners recorded a perfect record in the recently concluded AFC Women’s Champions League 2024/25 Group Stage, notching up three decisive wins, while the Nadeshikos reached the quarter-finals of the 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup, beating eventual champions Spain along the way.

Meanwhile, Melbourne FC’s impressive showing in the Group Stage of the AFC Women’s Champions League, coupled with the Matildas’ record-setting semi-final finish at home at the 2023 edition of the global showpiece, helped Australia to secure second position with 98.219 points.

The Republic of Korea came in at third spot with 85.597 points thanks to Hyundai Steel Red Angels FC, who topped Group A of the AFC Women’s Champions League with two wins and a draw.

Points for all clubs have been calculated following the conclusion of the AFC Women’s Champions League 2024/25 Group Stage, while the national team points are based on the FIFA Women’s World Ranking issued on August 16.

The final rankings will be released at the end of the season, following the conclusion of the AFC Women’s Champions League, the AFC wrote on its website.
