Singapore keen to invest in offshore wind power development in Ba Ria-Vung Tau

Cheng made the statement during a meeting with Pham Viet Thanh, secretary of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee, on October 16.
He expressed his wish that Ba Ria-Vung Tau would soon license the partnership between PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) and Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd of Singapore to implement the offshore wind power project in the locality.
For his part, provincial Party leader Pham Viet Thanh expected that Cheng would continue to promote cooperative relations between Ba Ria – Vung Tau and partners in Singapore, as well as helping to strengthen connectivity among businesses of both sides.
He revealed that the southern locality has so far attracted 55 investment projects from Singapore with a total investment capital of about US$3 billion, mainly in the fields of maritime services, seaports, construction materials, food processing, and mechanics, as well as offshore renewable energy.
Moreover, Ba Ria - Vung Tau signed a cooperation agreement with the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) in 2006 and is expected to ink a new deal, including an action programme to implement the contents of mutual interest to both sides.
With regard to offshore wind power development, especially energy export abroad, PTSC deputy director general Tran Ho Bac held that the field will provide leverage for accelerating the local economic development, thereby turning Ba Ria - Vung Tau into an industrial hub with renewable energy services on par with the rest of the region.
