The Ban Gioc – Detian Waterfall Scenic Zone, the first cross-border tourist site between Vietnam and China, was officially put into operation on October 15 after a test-run for more than a year.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Checkpoint Station 834/1 in Trung Khanh District of Vietnam’s Cao Bang Province that attracted representatives from the Cao Bang Provincial People’s Committee and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China.

The cooperation model for the protection and exploitation of tourism resources at Ban Gioc (Vietnam) and Detian (China) waterfall is a unique and innovative framework that involves two areas in two countries collaborating to protect and jointly utilize the site.

The official operation allowing tourists to traverse the scenic zone affirms political trust, promotes harmonious interests, and enhances friendly exchanges between the Vietnamese and Chinese peoples. It plays a significant role in advancing the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership between Vietnam and China.

Trinh Truong Huy, vice chairman of the Cao Bang provincial administration, suggested that both sides further enhance cooperation and exchange efforts to preserve natural resources and cultural values of this scenic area.

They should work together to ensure the safety and security of tourists visiting the site, and actively research and collaborate on the construction of distinctive border infrastructure that reflects the friendship between the two Parties, States, and peoples, thereby attracting more visitors to the area, he said.

Hu Fan, vice chairman of the People’s Government of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, emphasized that both sides need to continue building an effective model for tourism cooperation.

Guangxi is ready to cooperate with Cao Bang Province to further enhance the infrastructure for the Ban Gioc – Detian Waterfall site, enrich tourism products and forms, and improve relevant mechanisms to jointly create a model for cross-border and green tourism cooperation, he said.

He also suggested that both sides should work together to promote border tourism cooperation, enhance exchanges at all levels, develop prosperous border and cross-border tourism, and encourage high-quality tourism development.

Vietnam and China signed an agreement on cooperation for the protection and exploitation of tourism resources at Ban Gioc – Detian Waterfall Scenic Zone following Chinese leader Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam in November 2015.

After four years of infrastructure construction, the scenic zone began a trial run on September 15, 2023, and so far more than 13,000 Vietnamese and Chinese tourists have visited the site.
