Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha encouraged Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to deploy new investment projects in Vietnam, during his reception for Shingo Ueno, president and CEO of Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, in Hanoi on October 8.

At the function, Ha appreciated Sumitomo’s business operations across multiple fields in Vietnam, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.

He suggested that the Japanese corporation use modern and green technologies in its projects such as the North Hanoi Smart City project and the Western Industrial Park project in Thanh Hoa to ensure the maximum efficiency of the use of both land and energy.

Sumitomo's projects are required to adapt to climate change, prevent and combat natural disasters with the aim of ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of investment cooperation projects, he noted.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM also discussed Sumitomo's proposal to invest in the Van Phong 2 LNG gas turbine power plant project, and to remove obstacles so that the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line will be put into operation soon.

For his part, Ueno briefed his host on the implementation of Sumitomo’s projects in Vietnam in the fields of manufacturing, energy, industrial park investment, smart city construction, and urban railways.

He revealed that the group has invested in four industrial parks in the Vietnamese market, generating jobs for about 90,000 people.

Furthermore, the group has also put the Van Phong 1 thermal power plant into operation and actively removed difficulties in a bid to swiftly complete the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line project.

Currently, Sumitomo is focusing on implementing the North Hanoi Smart City Project, building the Western Industrial Park of Thanh Hoa, and proposing plans to invest in the Van Phong 2 LNG gas turbine power plant project moving forward.
