The Hanoi Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Hanoi Women’s Union, the Hanoi Youth Union, and relevant agencies jointly organized the Hanoi 2024 Áo Dài Tourism Festival on October 4 to promote the traditional long dress of Vietnam.
The Hanoi Áo Dài Tourism Festival is an annual cultural and tourism event, and this year it has been designated by the city as one of the special events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024). The festival aims to honour and preserve the unique cultural beauty of the traditional Vietnamese dress, and at the same time seeks to promote the dress as an impressive souvenir for international tourists visiting Vietnam. The festival serves as a source of creative inspiration for designers; a platform for experience and interaction for students in the design industry; and an opportunity for networking, collaboration, and development between businesses in Hanoi and both domestic and international companies. Themed “Hanoi - The Essence of Áo Dài” the festival revives part of the image of Hanoi throughout the 70-year period. Numerous performances, dances, and fashion shows reenact the spirit of Hanoi as a heroic, resilient, and courageous capital that is continually renewing, developing, and integrating into the world. The festival opens up a new direction for the cultural and tourism development of the capital, contributing to making Vietnam, and Hanoi in particular an attractive destination and a top choice for many domestic and international tourists, positioning it as a leading global travel destination. The highlight of the festival is the Áo Dài Carnival organized by the Hanoi Women’s Union. The Carnival is due to take place at the Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center and nearby streets at 8:00a.m. on October 5, to showcase a large-scale artistic performance combined with folk dances and parades centered around the long dress. In addition, there will be various activities, including the program “Áo Dài Festival Night,” the final round of an Áo Dài design competition, and an exhibition showcasing Áo Dài from famous designers and brands. There will be presentations of tourism products, services, and traditional Áo Dài craftsmanship. The festival plays a significant role in promoting Hanoi as a “safe, friendly, quality, and attractive destination” for both domestic tourists and international friends during the autumn season in the capital city.
