World leading cueists gather for thrilling billiards tournaments in Vietnam

The Ho Chi Minh City Open 2024 and the World Championship 3-Cushion Individuals both opened on September 25, featuring dozens of the world’s leading cueists.

One highly anticipated event is the Ho Chi Minh City Open 2024 which is taking place from September 25 to 29. It has brought together top players from around the world competing for a total prize pool exceeding US$110,000.

The Ho Chi Minh City Open 2024 is the largest international billiards pool tournament in Vietnam recognised by the World Pool Association (WPA) and the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS). Accordingly, all domestic and international players can register to participate in the competition and can earn points for their WPA rankings.

Vietnamese players will have the chance to gain experience from strong rivals such as world No. 2 Alexander Kazakis of Greece, world No. 4 Carlo Biado of the Philippines, world No. 3 Denis Grabe of Estonia, world No. 8 Wu Kun Lin of Taiwan (China), and world No. 9 Bader Alawadhi of Kuwait.

On the same day, the 76th World Championship 3-Cushion Individuals jointly organised by the WPA and Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation kicked off in the southcentral province of Binh Thuan.

This marks the first time that the world's premier tournament in 3-cushion carom has been held in the country.

A total of 48 players have been invited to join in the event, including seven Vietnamese players along with top global seeds such as Dick Jaspers, Quyet Chien Tran, Jun Tae Kim, Myung Woo Cho, Martin Horn, and Eddy Merckx.

The tournament will last through to September 29 at the Sea Link Resort in Binh Thuan.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation donated VND50 million to support flood victims in the northern region impacted by typhoon Yagi.
