HÀ NỘI — The implementation of intelligent transport systems and traffic management centres will be rolled out across expressways nationwide to optimise operations.
The move follows a report from the Ministry of Transport to the Prime Minister outlining the plan to establish traffic management centres on the expressways under its management by 2025.
Specifically, four traffic management centres will be established along the six operational sections of the eastern part of the North-South Expressway starting from this year.
The six sections are Cao Bồ-Mai Sơn, Mai Sơn-National Route 45, National Route 45-Nghi Sơn, Nghi Sơn-Diễn Châu, Vĩnh Hảo-Phan Thiết and Phan Thiết-Dầu Giây.
For the 18 expressway sections currently under construction, the ministry proposed a plan for the development of traffic management centres beginning this year.
The 12 sections are Bãi Vọt-Hàm Nghi, Hàm Nghi-Vũng Áng, Vũng Áng-Bùng, Bùng-Vạn Ninh, Vạn Ninh-Cam Lộ, Quảng Ngãi-Hoài Nhơn, Hoài Nhơn-Quy Nhơn, Quy Nhơn-Chí Thạnh, Chí Thạnh-Vân, Vân Phong-Nha Trang, Cần Thơ-Hậu Giang, Hậu Giang-Cà Mau, Khánh Hoà-Buôn Ma Thuột, Biên Hoà-Vũng Tàu, Mỹ Thuận-Cần Thơ, Cam Lộ-La Sơn, La Sơn-Tuý Loan and Dầu Giây-Tân Phú.
For expressway sections currently in the planning stage, the ministry recommended that the construction of traffic management centres should be in line with project development timelines, ensuring coordinated operation when the expressways are completed.
The Decision No. 923/QĐ-TTg issued by the Prime Minister on June 30, 2020 sets the goal that all expressways will be equipped with intelligent transport systems by 2025.
Integrated traffic management centres for smart cities will also be established in central and urban areas that need them.
Currently, the intelligent transport system has been run in 11 out of 35 expressway sections, or a total of 645km out of 2,021km of expressways. — VNS
