HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs is currently seeking feedback from other ministries and sectors regarding the plan for the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tết) holiday.
According to the proposal, officials, public servants and employees could have nine consecutive days off next year.
Instead of offering several options for the holiday schedule, this time the labour ministry has proposed only one option.
Since the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday falls from the beginning of the week, public servants, officials and employees will get an additional four weekend days (two Saturdays and Sundays) off before and after the five days of official Tết holidays (from the 28th day of the last lunar month to the 3rd day of the first lunar month of the new year, corresponding to Monday, January 27 and Friday, January 31, 2025).
Therefore, if this proposal is approved by the Government, public servants will enjoy two additional days off compared to 2022 and 2023.
For employees in private companies, the labour ministry stated that employers can arrange the Tết holiday schedule based on practical conditions and the public servant holiday schedule. The Government encourages companies to adopt the same holiday schedule for their employees as for public servants.
While companies have the flexibility to decide their holiday schedules, they are required to inform their employees of the Tết holiday plan at least 30 days in advance.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has agreed to the proposed duration.
In Việt Nam, workers can have 11 paid days of official holidays, including New Year's Day (one day), Lunar New Year (five days), Hùng Kings' Commemoration Day (one day) and September 2 (two days off).
