Chinese culture introduced at Mid-Autumn Festival celebration

HÀ NỘI — A night of exciting music and dance performances introducing Chinese culture took place in Hà Nội on September 18.

The 'Under the Shared Moon and Wind, A Dialogue Across Mountains and Waters' Cultural Salon was one of many activities held to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival for people from both countries.

It was co-organised by the Information Office, the Foreign Affairs Office of People's Government of Yunnan Province and Kim Liên Travel to promote their culture and tourism in Hà Nội, while enhancing cultural exchanges between China and Việt Nam.

In China, the Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, is both a moment to reconnect across the ages and a vibrant cultural gathering.

China and Việt Nam, though separated by mountains and rivers, share the same moon and wind. As the Chinese saying goes, "The moon reaches its fullest on the 16th day of the lunar month". The event was therefore organised on September 18, which was the 16th day of the eighth lunar month, to let people once again enjoy the spirit of reunion with a wonderful opportunity to experience the culture of both countries.

Speaking at the event, Wang Qun, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Việt Nam, said in China, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as the Reunion Festival, a day for families to reunite and have fun.

As Việt Nam and China have maintained a good relationship for many years, the Mid-Autumn Festival experience in Hà Nội not only introduces the beauty of traditional Chinese culture to the Vietnamese people but also aims to honour the unique culture of the two countries, tightening the solidarity between their people.

At the event, people enjoyed unique dances in traditional Chinese ethnic costumes, as well as acrobatics, singing and performances of traditional musical instruments played by artists from Yunnan.

They also had the chance to take part in a range of experiments such as making and tasting Mid-Autumn moon cakes and rose cakes, learning traditional painting techniques, trying out Chinese paper cutting art and drinking flower tea. Participants also had the chance to win prizes like lanterns, scented bags and hand embroidered necklaces by taking part in games.

A mini photo exhibition was also displayed during the celebration. Beautiful and colourful images of Yunnan, including its natural heritage, people and their customs and traditions, festivals, nature reserves and ancient cities are featured by talented photographers.

Event goers were introduced to a province that combines geographically distinctive, incredible cultural aspects and amazing natural scenery which appeal to tourists all year round.

Yunnan is located in southwest China on the border of Việt Nam's Điện Biên, Lai Châu, Lào Cai and Hà Giang provinces. It has beautiful natural landscapes, historical architecture and a friendly and generous population.

It is home to many must-visit destinations such as Jiuxiang Cave, known as the "Museum of Karst Caves", the Shangri-La White Water Terraces and Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces, Heshun Ancient Town and Ganden Sumtseling Monastery. VNS
