Vietnamese finswimmers qualify for 2025 World Games

Eight local finswimmers have successfully qualified for the 2025 World Games which is scheduled to take place from August 7 to 17 next year in Chengdu in China.

According to the World Underwater Federation, the Vietnamese diving team had eight official slots at the World Games 2025 thanks to their best performances recorded at the Finswimming World Cup 2024 held in Thailand in early September.

Most notably, Nguyen Trung Kien who took home a gold with a time of 35.93 seconds, will compete in the men's 100m surface event.

He was followed by Nguyen Thanh Loc with a time of 36.37 and Do Dinh Toan with a time of 36.74, both of whom will vie for medals in the men's 100m surface event at World Games.

Elsewhere, Luu Nguyen Duc Tam secured two slots at the global games in the men's 200m and 400m surface event. Nguyen Huy Anh, who bagged a silver medal in Thailand, will compete in the men’s 200m surface event.

In the 4x100m relay event, Vietnam will send both a men’s and women’s team with each consisting of four members to 2025 World Games.

This comes after the Vietnamese diving team finished among the top rankings at the 18th CMAS Finswimming World Cup 2024 Round 4 in Phuket in Thailand with a total of 26 gold medals, 27 silvers, and 16 bronzes, which concluded on September 9.

The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising of sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after the Summer Olympic Games and last for 11 days.

The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.

So far, a total of six Vietnamese athletes in pétanque, wushu, and women's beach handball have qualified for next year's event.
