Vietnamese sporting delegation departs for 2024 Paris Paralympic Games

Upon addressing the ceremony, Nguyen Hong Minh, head of Vietnamese sporting delegation at the Paralympics, stressed that the games is a good chance for athletes to hone their skills and to gain greater experience at international events.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong shared that the local athletes have set a goal of winning one or two medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, with the delegation making every effort to achieve the best results to bring glorious victories to the country.
The Vietnamese delegation consists of 14 members, including seven athletes and three coaches. As planned, the Vietnamese sporting delegation, including seven athletes, will depart for Paris on August 23 before then returning home on September 9.
Vietnam will send a total of seven athletes to the games. They include powerlifter Le Van Cong; runner Pham Nguyen Khanh Minh; swimmers Le Tien Dat and Do Thanh Hai; and powerlifters Nguyen Binh An, Dang Thi Linh Phuong, and Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan.
They will vie for one or two medals in three sports, namely athletics, swimming, and weightlifting.
The 2024 Paris Paralympic Games features a total of 22 sports and 23 disciplines with 549 events. Around 4,400 athletes are expected to compete in 20 venues across France.
All eyes are on powerlifter Le Van Cong who brought home a gold medal in the men's 49 kg back at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. He became the first Vietnamese athlete winning a gold medal in the history of the Paralympic Games.
The powerlifter also bagged a silver medal in the men's 49 kg at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo in Japan.
