Located in the northern border province of Cao Bang, Ban Gioc waterfall is the largest in Southeast Asia and also one of the 21 most beautiful in the world, that has drawn an increasing number of tourists again following days of flooding.
Cao Bang has run tours of Ban Gioc-Detian waterfall on the Vietnam-China border since September 15, 2023. However, tours have been canceled for a few days due to heavy rain and flooding. The tours resume on August 5, providing a chance for visitors to contemplate the breathtaking beauty of the waterfall. Ban Gioc waterfall consists of two parts, with the main part located in the middle of the Vietnam-China border and delimited by the Quay Son river flowing below. The main waterfall stretches for about 100 metres wide, 70 metres high, and 60 metres deep. From a distance, it appears as a white silk strip across the mountains and forests, creating a charming scene for guests to enjoy. The tour attracts many Vietnamese and Chinese tourists and is expected to become an eco-friendly cross-border tourism model between the two nations. The site boasts many beautiful backgrounds which are perfect to snap photos. Summer is the peak tourism season which typically sees the popular tourist site draw a large number of visitors each year. The cascading waterfall, with a height of 53 metres and a width of 300 metres, features many different large and small falls. Large bodies of water pour down the structure through limestone, which in turn serves to create special white mist. A French family say they are impressed by the charming natural beauty of the site that perfectly blends in with the peaceful vibe of the surrounding countryside. From the Vietnamese side, a tour package to discover Ban Gioc-Detian waterfalls costs around VND800,000 per person. After a few days of flooding, all tourism activities have since resumed. Tourists have the chance to explore Đàn Tính, which is a typical string musical instrument played by the Tay ethnic people in Cao Bang province, during their trip to Ban Gioc waterfall. The tourist area welcomed hundreds of multi-national visitors on August 5, according to the site’s management board. Travel magazine Travel+Leisure of the United States has recently named Ban Gioc waterfall among the top 21 most beautiful waterfalls in the world. The site is most beautiful between June and October, especially in September and October when it is full of water. VOV
