Vietnam imports US$54.3 billion worth of computers and electronic products

Vietnamese imports of computers, electronic products, and components stood at US$54.3 billion from January 1 to July 15, representing a year-on-year rise of 28.4% and accounting for nearly 28% of the county’s total imports, according to data released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The first half of July alone saw Vietnam spend nearly US$5 billion on importing commodities from markets worldwide.

Asia was the leading supplier of commodities to Vietnam in the reviewed period.

China made up the largest import market with about US$16 billion, a sharp increase of 60% year on year, while the Republic of Korea

was in second position with US$14.77 billion, up by 18.16%.

By the end of this year, the import turnover of computers, electronic products, and components is forecast to hit US$100 billion.

Last year Vietnam spent nearly US$88 billion on importing computers, electronic products, and components, up 7.4% compared to the same periodfrom the previous year.

As of July 15, Vietnam exported US$65.9 billion worth of mobile phones, computers, electronic products, and components. Of the total, the export turnover of computers, electronic products, and components reached US$36.3 billion, while that of mobile phones and spare parts hit approximately US$29.6 billion.
