June alone witnessed the country’s tuna exports maintain growth of 32% year on year with turnover reaching more than US$85 million.
Most notably, the export value of frozen tuna products hit a record high with more than US$44 million, up 29% against the same period from last year.
Tuna exports to main markets such as the United States, the European Union, and Israel continued to see annual upturns of 18%, 56%, and 50%, respectively.
Within the EU bloc, tuna exports to Italy and the Netherlands both witnessed triple-digit growth, while exports to the German market experienced a downward trajectory.
Furthermore, exports to the Russian market also enjoyed triple-digit growth in June, thereby turning Russia into one of the five largest importers of Vietnamese tuna.
In contrast, tuna exports to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) markets in June endured a decrease of 12% to nearly US$9 million.
Experts say global demand for tuna is anticipated to rise ahead in the second half of the year in the lead up to year-end holidays, which will create a wealth of opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to boost tuna exports.
