The Vietnamese badminton team have been placed into tough groups in both the men’s and women’s event following the group stage draw for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which was held on July 12 at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

According to the draw, in the women’s singles, Vietnam's top female badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh was placed in Group K along with Beiwen Zhang of the United States, world No.11, and Tiffany Ho of Australia, world No.80.

According to several experts, although Linh has to face off against strong rivals who have won a number of prizes at international tournaments, she still has a chance of winning the group stage to progress to the next round.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Vietnamese player Le Duc Phat was also placed in Group K with Prannoy H.S of India, world No.13, and Fabian Roth of Germany, world No.82.

Phat will have to overcome a number of challenges in the group stage as he takes on several strong opponents. His Indian opponent Prannoy H.S previously secured a bronze medal in the men's singles category at the prestigious BWF World Badminton Championships 2023, while Fabian Roth won a gold medal at the 2013 European Junior Championship.

The badminton group stage competition is set to begin on July 27 and will run until August 5.
