Low-cost Chinese carrier Spring Airlines has added a new route to Vietnam, with the first flight on the Ho Chi Minh City-Shanghai route landing at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on July 6.

The Ho Chi Minh City-Shanghai route will have four flights per week running on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. All of which will use the modern and environmentally friendly aircraft Airbus A320/321 Neo.

The one-way fare, including tax, will be as low as US$88.2. These preferential tickets are now on sale through Spring Airlines’ APP and Mini Program, thereby offering passengers more access to convenient and economical travel options.

This marks the fifth airlines to operate regular flights connecting the southern city with Shanghai. This comes after China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and VietJet all opened direct air route between Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai.

Spring Airlines is one of China’s largest low-cost carriers and is based in Shanghai. As of April, it owned a fleet of 125 Airbus A320 aircraft and operated more than 210 routes, covering major commercial and tourist cities in China, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia, transporting 23 million passengers annually.

The opening of the new routes will serve to further improve Spring Airlines’ route network in the Southeast Asia region, thus  facilitating economic ties and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and China.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport is an international airport serving Ho Chi Minh City, the most populous city in the nation.

It represents the busiest airport in the country, welcoming 32.5 million passengers in 2016, 38.5 million passengers in 2018, and about 41 million passengers in 2023. As of December, 2023, it is the 50th busiest airport in the world, as well as being the fourth busiest in Southeast Asia.
